JEDDAH — A huge gathering of Bangladeshi expatriates witnessed the inauguration of the Bangladesh Krishok League’s (Bangladesh Farmers League — BKL) western Saudi Arabia branch at a function held at Hotel Holiday Inn in Jeddah recently.

BKL President Mohammad Motahar Hossain Mollah inaugurated the ceremony. Giasuddin Mahmoud, vice chairman of Bangladesh International School Jeddah and president of the western Saudi committee of BKL, chaired the function.

While addressing the gathering chief guest Shahjahan Khan MP, shipping minister of Bangladesh, encouraged Bangladesh expatriates to work hard in Saudi Arabia to uplift the nation’s image and reputation.

Ahmed Hossain, organizing secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, and Sheikh Showkat Ahmed, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Krishok, were special guests on the occasion.

In their motivating speeches, they urged the Bangladeshi expatriates to respect and abide by the rules and regulations of Saudi Arabia.

The BKL committee gave a multimedia presentation featuring the strengths of Bangladeshi farmers who turned the country into a rice exporter. Once an importer of rice, country is ranked fourth in the world in producing rice and fifth in fishing.

The presentation focused on the four major objectives of the BKL branch, foremost of which is to look after the interests and well being of the Bangladeshi agro workers and their employers in the Kingdom.

The organization will also help create a safe and healthy work environment for Bangladeshi agro workers, especially in Saudi Arabia’s extremely hot weather conditions.

The organization also aims to provide Bangladesh agro workers with necessary technical training and ethical education to achieve their individual financial goals that will increase their personal remittances as well as the country’s foreign reserves.

Finally, the organization aims to establish new agro farms in Saudi Arabia and attract Saudi investment in producing more foods to meet the needs of local consumers. This will also increase the chances of employment for more Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia.

According to BKL-WR in Saudi Arabia, the proper utilization of abandoned land may open a new fortune for both Saudi and Bangladesh governments. The two governments can reach a bilateral G2G agreement to ensure a tremendous boost in the economy of both countries.
