Houses of Hindus torched in Brahmanbaria in fresh attack

Miscreants set six dwelling structures of the Hindu community on fire at Nasirnagar upazila headquarters early Friday, escalating tension further in the trouble-hit upazila.

The incident took place four days after the attacks on temples, houses and business establishments of the Hindu community in the upazila, UNB reports.

Locals said miscreants set fire to the cowshed of Phul Kishore Sarkar, three kitchen rooms of Mrinal Kanti Sarkar and Amar Deb, an abandoned house of Santu Kabiraj and a house of Sagar Das around 4 am.

On information, Nasirnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Chowdhury Moazzem Ahmed and local leaders of Awami League visited the spot in the morning.

On October 30, an unruly mob equipped with sharp weapons went berserk and demolished a number of Hindu temples and nearly 100 houses in Nasirnagar upazila following a rumour of a Facebook post demeaning the Holy Kaaba.

Two cases were later filed against 1,200 unnamed people with the local police station in connection with the incident.
